Research Policy

Rapid growth in scientific knowledge is an indication of quest for discovery and has an impact on economic and societal development. Science, technology and innovation is often initiated at the college research environment and it is also the mission of Senthil College of Education. Research is the foundation of knowledge that brings new energy, builds state of the art facilities, promotes research publications, develops collaborations and becomes part of active community that shares the mission objectives. Taking these into considerations, Senthil College of Education Research Policy is implemented.

Purpose

The purpose of the Research Policy is to create a vibrant atmosphere of research among faculty and researchers in Senthil College of Education. The policy shall serve as an overall framework within which research activities may be carried out.

Scope

This research policy applies to all researches conducted by researchers including B.Ed., M.Ed., faculties, and faculties from other universities conducting research as a part of exchange programs or any other.

Objectives

  1. To create an enabling environment within SCOE in order to foster a research culture.
  2. To ensure high level of efficient and effective support system to facilitate faculty and researchers in their research activities.
  3. Ensure publications in quality journals, indexed in Scopus/Web of Science and/or with impact factor.
  4. To nurture an environment of undertaking socially useful research with potential implementation.
  5. Encouraging faculty to collaborate with other research organizations.

Custodian of Policy

The implementation and updating of Research Policy shall be carried out by Dean of Research, with the members of research committee. The Research Policy shall have a research advisory body to function under the experts in the field of research, to assist and advice in matters related to research within Senthil College of Education.

Policy and Guidelines

Faculty members of Senthil College of Education and research departments are expected to undertake research, leading to quality publications, presentations in National/International conferences of repute generation of Intellectual property with potential for commercialization, socially useful outcome and other similar research activity. Research output will be considered one of the criteria for faculty recruitment and promotion along with other academic responsibilities. SCOE shall recruit such faculty members and researchers who have demonstrable/demonstrated capability in research. Faculty promotion may significantly depend on research undertaken. The quality of research output, especially research publications, may be assessed on the established yardsticks such as Impact Factor (IF) and which will be revised from time-to-time as appropriate. Overall management of research activities may be coordinated by Dean of Research, SCOE under direct supervision of Research advisory body and administrative committee shall be responsible for overall functioning of research activities within the College.

Research Promotion (Seed Money)

In 2008-2009 academic year onwards our Research and Development Cell consecutively providing seed money from the management to the faculty member for research project. Furthermore, given hands to enhancement of research activity.

Ethics in Research

The basic responsibility of an Ethics is to ensure a competent review of all ethical aspects of the project proposals received and execute the same free from any bias and influence that could affect their objectivity. Ethics should provide advice to the researchers on all aspects of welfare and safety of the research participants after ensuring the scientific soundness of the proposed research through appropriate Scientific Review Committees.

  5. To access the progress of the research activities periodically.
  6. To inculcate the research values among the budding scholars.
  7. To train the students in preparing the research proposals, synapsis, etc..
  8. To create awareness regarding conferences / symposia/ seminars/ workshops at various levels
  9. To help the research scholars and their guiding teachers to interact with the other researchers
  10. To advise on the development of infra-structure required for research activities.

Policy of Research Incentives Scheme

Fulltime Faculty members (permanent and management) of Senthil College of Education who are on probation/permanent payrolls and faculty shall publish a paper once in every academic year.

  1. Each Faculty applying for the incentives should have ORCID for their publications.
  2. Publications should be published in indexed journals (such as SCOPUS / UGC recognized journals) will only be considered for incentives.
  3. The faculty will be paid following incentives based upon the impact factor of the Journals in which the research paper has been published.

Presentation of research papers/ workshops/seminars/FDPS in India:

  1. The International/ National conference must be of repute (viz. IEEE, Springer/Wiley/IPC etc.) and the hosting Institutions must be of Institutes of repute Universities/ Deemed Universities.
  2. The faculty would be allowed OD + Registration + T.A. on actual basis
  3. In case of joint authorship only one faculty can avail the facility.
  4. Each faculty can present research papers in Conferences of repute twice in an academic year with financial assistance (limited to Rs. 10,000/- only).
  5. Maximum number of ODs is limited to one week during lean period. Only one day OD is allowed in the academic period.

Presentation of research papers/ workshops/seminars in Abroad

  1. Publication claim under Research Incentive Schemes (RIS) of Senthil College of Education must be made within a month of publication in the prescribed form.
  2. The faculty has to approach Senthil College of Education (which provides 100% funding subject to meeting their norms) or other Funding Agencies of Govt. of India. The Funding adheres to the regulation of UGC.

Generation of research grants or grants for up gradation of research infrastructure

  1. Faculty members are expected to submit proposals for research grants from funding agencies.
  2. Research incentive will be 5% of the allocable amount if the Institutional overheads are less than 10% of the project and 10% if the overheads are 10% or more of the project cost.
  3. Principal Investigator will be entitled for 60% of the incentive while remaining 40% shall be equally distributed among the Co-Investigators.
  4. There will be only one Principal Investigator and faculty members assisting the Principal

Investigator with any other title/s will be treated as Co-Investigators for the purpose of calculation of the incentives.

  1. If there is no Principal Investigator, the incentive shall be shared equally among the Co- Investigators
  2. Principal and Co-Investigators from outside the University will not be eligible for the incentive.
  3. Incentive claim under Research Incentive Schemes (RIS) of ‘Senthil College of Education’ must be made within a month of sanction of project grant in the prescribed form
